Best Parks in Brooklyn!

I apologize for not posting for a little while but I was on vacation in France with my wife. I had some time to reflect on Brooklyn while I was traveling and some things became quite clear to me as I entered green space after green space inside of the city of Paris. Brooklyn is seriously lacking green space. Especially in my neighborhood of Cobble Hill, Carol Gardens and Boerum Hill. There is a mythological unquestioning meme that Brooklynites say to themselves and others and that is that Brooklyn is green. The trees, the trees, the trees. While this is a huge reason of what makes Brooklyn unique compared to Manhattan, there are simply not enough parks in our boro. Yes we have the Crown Jewel with Prospect Park as well as Fort Greene Park, Kaiser Park and Owl Heads Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Coney Island Park and my new favorite is a new state park that I stumbled upon yesterday in Williamsburg right on the water at the end of North 8th Street. – Awesome views! You can see a list of all the parks in Brooklyn here. I admit that the list is long but most of these spaces are tiny little parks on the corners of blocks and although they are vital to our community we need more larger parks in unexpected locations. In the spirit of heat and the human need for wind and water I put together a list of the top Parks in Brooklyn near water.

Here is my top ten list of Best Parks Near Water in Brooklyn.

  1. Prospect Park (best for bikes, horses, privacy, boating and music)
  2. Brooklyn Bridge Park (Stunning views!)
  3. Dyker Beach Park
  4. Williamsburg State Park (unsure of name)
  5. Asser Levy Park (Aquarium, Boardwalk, Beach)
  6. Kaiser Park (Gravesend)
  7. Owl’s Head Park
  8. Brooklyn Marine Park (Floyd Bennett Field, Golf)
  9. Manhattan Beach Park
  10. Dreir Offerman Park

What is your favorite park in Brooklyn?

I love Sunset Park. It's quiet, provides a great view of Manhattan and mere blocks from my house.

#4 Williamsburg State Park (unsure of name) It's name should be East River State Park.

Yo!

You forgot Gateway National Seashore, which is a national park in Brooklyn, Queens and Jersey.

They have it all: horses, boats, saltmarshes, etc.
As one of the two Brooklyn City parks with a golf course, Dyker Beach Park is a popular destination for those wishing to hit the links. Soon, younger golf fans will get their own course, a first for the city. The future CityParks Junior Golf Center, a kids-only six-hole course, driving range, and practice facility with free golf instruction, is expected to open this spring.
