The Redemption of General Butt Naked wins Excellence in Cinematography at Sundance
Congratulations goes to our good Brooklyn friends over at Part2
Pictures for winning excellence in Cinematography award at the
Sundance Film Festival for The Redemption of General Butt Naked.
THE REDEMPTION OF GENERAL BUTT NAKED tells the story of Joshua Milton
Blahyi - aka General Butt Naked - a brutal warlord who has reinvented
himself as a Christian evangelist. Dubbed "General Butt Naked" for
fighting with nothing more than an AK-47 and a pair of leather shoes,
Blahyi believed he possessed supernatural powers that made him
impervious to bullets. The General and his army of child soldiers are
said to have killed thousands during Liberia's horrific 14-year civil
war.
Following a dramatic conversion to Christianity, the General abruptly
laid down his weapons in 1996, leaving the war at the height of his
power.
Today, the General has renounced his violent past and reinvented
himself as evangelist Joshua Milton Blahyi. In a riveting documentary
portrait that unfolds over the course of five years, the film follows
Joshua's unrelenting crusade to redeem his past. We witness a man on a
quest for his soul: facing those he once terrorized, preaching where
he once murdered, and trying to rebuild the shattered lives of those
he commanded during the war.
